IT Equipment Disposal with Shred-X

When your IT equipment reaches End of Life, it’s important to protect your data and mitigate the risk of breaching data protection laws by disposing of it securely.

You can securely dispose of your IT equipment by engaging a certified provider that specialises in the secure destruction, erasure and recycling of your equipment.

Note: Nearly 100% of your IT equipment can be recycled when disposed of by a specialist provider.

In the past, some of our clients have asked whether Tekspace can provide equipment disposal services.

However, since Tekspace is not certified specialist in this field, we are not certified to securely erase and issue Certificates of Destruction for the equipment we dispose of. Further, we simply don’t have the facilities to store our client’s old equipment.

Only certified providers with end-to-end recycling capabilities are equipped for this type of work.

Tekspace has performed an evaluation of numerous suppliers in this space. Following this evaluation, we’ve selected Shred-X as our recommended provider for the certified destruction and recycling of our client’s IT equipment and data.

Shred-X Facility-based Hard Drive Destruction

Shred-X holds the highest industry certifications – including NAID AAA with PSPF endorsement – and offers the most certified equipment destruction service available.

Your hard drives will be collected by Shred-X personnel, who have been cleared by the Australian Federal Police and are Security Bonded.

They will then be transported in a locked, alarmed and GPS tracked vehicle to the closest Shred-X facility. All facilities are fitted with back-to-base alarms, monitored with 24-hour HD CCTV surveillance and are secured with an SCEC approved locking system.

Prior to physical destruction, Shred-X complete a serial-number recording and verification process. The destruction process is then conducted under the strictest security standards. Once the destruction is complete, Shred-X will provide you with a detailed Certificate of Destruction for your records.

Recycling of E-Waste Following Destruction

To provide the most environmentally sustainable service – and to assist you in meeting environmental and ethical targets – Shred-X offers responsible recycling.

Shred-X ensures the destroyed assets are recycled in accordance with international environmental and ethical specifications, and partners with recycling companies who are e-stewards and certified sustainable electronic recyclers.

Why Tekspace Has Selected Shred-X

Cost of Services

There are two costs associated with the Shred-X services.

Note: Tekspace does not receive any monetary or other benefit from Shred-X in any way.

Collection Fees

Collection fees are for the pickup of the IT Hardware from your location. If multiple devices are collected from one location, you will only pay the nominated Collection fee once (the Collection Fee is per site, not per device).

DescriptionPrice (Ex GST)
Collection Fee (Metro)$45.00
Collection Fee (Regional)$60.00
Collection Fee (Remote)Price on Application

Everything that falls outside of a Shred-X bin route is classified as Remote. This is a small percentage of Australia, essentially far north WA, far central SA, NSW and QLD. In VIC, there are only a few places (on top of mountains) that Shred-X don’t get to often.

Processing Fees

Processing fees are for the removal, scan, disk destruction and recycling of each device. Fees are charged for each device and are inclusive of any peripherals associated with each device (including keyboards, mice, monitors and docking stations).

For devices such as network equipment and UPS devices, or in the case where Peripherals are the *only* things being picked up, the Processing Fee is $1.00 p/kg.

DescriptionPrice (Ex GST)
Processing Fee$17.50
Processing Fee*$1.00 p/kg

*For Peripherals only, or Peripherals not associated with a Workstation

Invoicing and Payment

Tekspace clients will engage directly with Shred-X, we will not be in the middle.

Shred-X will issue an invoice and Certificate of Destruction once the equipment is collected. You can then pay the invoice with your chosen method.

How to Request a Collection

Can I use a different provider (other than Shred-X)?

You are welcome to use your preferred provider. Tekspace will follow the process above in the same way.

What if I want to keep the device, or donate it to a charity?

If the device is out of warranty and you choose to re-purpose it within the company, all services for it will fall outside scope (as per our existing Service Level Agreement).

Otherwise, if the device is in warranty, it can be re-purposed to another user or the Hot Spare pool.

If you want to donate the device to a charity, Tekspace will remove all support tools, anti-virus, monitoring and disconnect the device from your company domain. We will then mark the IT asset as disposed in the asset management documentation, and make a note that you as the client have taken on responsibility for remaining data and final destination. Any future works for that device (be they auditing or review) will fall outside scope.
